I'm sure this was a challenge. Take all of the complexity of a big sampling/looping machine and cram it all into a standard BOSS compact pedal...oh an do it without adding an extraneous buttons or knobs. Somehow BOSS pulled it off with its RC-2 Loop Station.

I'll admit that this thing can be a bit tough to make heads or tails of at first...afterall, it shares it's plethora of functions between only three knobs and one button (two with the actual stomp pedal). Anyway, once you get the hang of it, the RC-2 is a blast. Creating loops is simple with its included backing drums tracks in a variety of styles. You have the option of letting the RC-2 detect when you start playing in order to trigger the recording...a nice touch for hands-free operation.

You can record "one shots" and simply use it as a sampler, which can be fun also. There are so many parameters, and while it's nice to have all that control, I shudder to think what it would be like to try learning this thing without the manual.

As with a delay, you probably don't want to run this thing before any distortion. Put it in your effects loop, swap out guitar sounds, and have fun playing with yourself.
